To Blog, or Not to Blog

As my first post on my newly created blog page, I think it fitting that I talk about blogging in general. Why do people blog, and why has is become such a big thing?  Most of my friends have a blog, and/or follow blogs. I've only recently decided to get one. Up until now,  to me blogs seemed rather pointless, just someone ranting on the internet about something no one wants to hear, but on further inspection, maybe there are people that want to hear what someone's got to say. I heard my friends discuss what they've read on blogs, and I've read a few posts myself. It was kind of fun, actually, and I got to see other people's opinions, and see my friends' opinions on matters we've never really discussed. Maybe that's why people like to blog so much. Maybe there's an element of expression in blogging, kind of like a personal newspaper. You can discuss your personal opinion on the day's events, you can rant about the President or congress or your classes all you want, and it's o.k. because, guess what? In America we enjoy the First Amendment right of freedom of speech. I think that's why people like to blog so much. It's good exercise for your freedom of speech. It's a breath of fresh air to speak your mind, whether or not someone reads it. And if someone does read it, then hey, maybe it'll give them something to think about, or hopefully, influence them to do something good.
